The 2018 Nissan IDx — New Coupe to Be Turned Into Production Model

By | 12/03/2014

The Nissan IDx Freeflow and IDx NISMO concepts had their premiere at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show. There we had the chance to see two excellent new, rear-wheel drive coupes which will be added up to this ever-growing market. It seems that the world and automotive public can’t get enough of these types of coupes, so their segment is growing really fast. The Nissan has recognized its potential as well, and has decided to turn the concept models into production ones. The new 2018 Nissan IDx will be released during 2017. It will come with some rather fascinating specs. Alongside with its unique and a bit unusual, but modern and attractive style, the new coupe will also bring fascinating performance. This was expected considering that the new model is a tribute to the Datsun 510, which is a racing car. However, if you for any unjustified reason decided that the new IDx Freeflow, which is a more elegant and modern version of the coupe, isn’t sporty or racy enough for you, you can always turn to IDx NISMO, which is an even more performance-oriented model. These two coupes will surely win over a big piece of the market segment, since none of their traits are worse than the competition’s. It will be a fierce fight in the rear-drive coupe compartment, and to be completely honest, we can’t wait to see it.

The 2018 Nissan IDx Exterior Design

The 2018 Nissan IDx looks rather interesting. Its design is unlike any other offered on the market. This is logical, considering that it’s target audience are young and adventurous drivers. Therefore, the new coupe is completely out of the ordinary. The manufacturer went all in with its design: instead of playing it safe and following the current design trends, like the rest of the companies, they decided to try something new and refreshing. In our opinion, they did a great job. The new Nissan IDx looks completely amazing and stunning. Its unique design doesn’t make it weird or unfit; it depicts its nature to the line. There might be those which will not like the new design, but all those with an open mind and a feel for uniqueness will recognize its potential. It is a compact new coupe, with its dimensions at 160 inches length, 67 inches width and 51 inches height. The NISMO model will be four inches wider in order to provide better stability, while other dimensions will remain the same.

The Powertrain Option For the New Coupe

As for the powertrain, the 2018 Nissan IDx will come with two engines offered. The first one will be used for the IDx Freeflow; it will probably be the naturally aspired gasoline engine with a displacement of either 1.2 or 1.5 liter. The mill will be mated to the CVT. The second option will come with the Nissan IDx NISMO. It will be a turbocharged 1.6-liter direct-injected unit. This engine will use a CVT with a six-speed manual shift mode, since it is a performances model. Both of the units will provide superb performance; however, details about it are unknown at the time. Also, both of the versions will come with a lightweight body, which will reduce their fuel economy and more importantly, improve their performance.
