2018 Jeep Wrangler Announced: Redesign It Is!

By | 07/10/2014

Even though we didn’t even have the time to see and analyze the 2015 Jeep Wrangler, the rumors about the 2018 model started to show up. Apparently not even the fact that it is vacation time stops the engineers at Jeep from constantly improving their vehicles. The fact that they moved on to the next model/s so quickly is not to worry anyone as there is nothing wrong with this famous model, and there will be nothing wrong. The reason behind such hurry is in the new CAFÉ regulations which are very strict when it comes to fuel consumption. All those remotely informed in Wrangler’s specs now that this is not its strongest suit. The new model’s figures are 17 mpg in city and 21 mpg on highway, which is not something to brag about. The question here is whether the improved fuel economy will affect the off-road capabilities of the model. The manufacturer claims not, say that compromising is not an option, meaning that the 2018 SUV will be as capable as the current model, only with reduced fuel consumption.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Exterior — Redesign And Body Improvements

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler will have its exterior redesigned. The full scale of the new appearance is, of course, unknown at the time, but it is sure that the new model will keep the traditional appearance known worldwide. The possible changes could include more modern details nicely combined with the model’s boxy body shape, or possible advanced technologies regarding headlights, aerodynamics etc. In addition, the new model will have a brand new platform, especially designed for the Wrangler. The platform will provide better underpinning, but it will also decrease the model’s weight as it will be made out of light, but stiff materials. This way the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will improve its fuel economy without changing the current powertrain, but the weight reduction will also improve its performance without affecting its durability and strength. The new model is expected to vastly use aluminum and light steel in order to shave off more weight and thanks to modern technologies that will not affect any other aspect of the vehicle in any negative way.

Powertrain, EPA Fuel Economy And New Engine Options

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler will have its fuel economy improved, though there are no reports saying how improved will it be. In addition, there is still no information which engine that model will use. The current Wrangler uses a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with either six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels. Such powertrain returns fuel economy at 17 mpg/city and 21 mpg/highway. These numbers will probably be increased, because even if the powertrain remains the same, the 2018 model will weigh less, which will improve its performance. In addition, there are rumors that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler might get an independent suspension system which will also contribute to the vehicle’s MPG results. Also, there is a huge possibility that the new model will have a brand new engine especially designed for it which will improve all aspects of driving: if they could make a new platform, why couldn’t they do the same thing with the engine?

2018 Jeep Wrangler Release Date

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be released during 2017 as a 2018 model. As for the price, there is no possible way of knowing it at the moment due to the fact that the model is still in development, and there is a lot of time left until release. Many things can change during this time span, but we are sure that nevertheless, once this SUV is released, it will worth every cent, regardless of the price tag.
