The 2015 Subaru Legacy has just been released, all brand and new. And while we are still admiring the new generation and getting used to it, the manufacturer decided to announce the release of yet another model year of the famous car. The 2017 Subaru Legacy will be released with some smaller changes compared to the current model, but those changes will be quite important. It seems as though the manufacturer didn’t have time to implement all the elements they wanted on the fifth generation on the Legacy, so they are rushing to release the new and improved 2015 Legacy. Therefore, the new model will really be interesting. Its exterior and interior changes will not be drastic, but its appearance will represent a new, more modern iteration of the current design. Aside from the aesthetical changes, the 2017 model will be more impressive due to its powertrain. The new 2017 Legacy will come with some new engine options, where the most interesting novelty will be the possible hybrid powertrain. This setup would expand the diversity of the model and it would certainly help the car take over more publicity and a bigger share of the market.
New Six-cylinder Engine
The 2017 Subaru Legacy will use a new six-cylinder engine which will replace the current 3.6-liter mill. The new engine will, according to some rumors, have a smaller displacement, but its power output will be higher. Also, the smaller engine will be more efficient, and with a lightweight body and some other possible changes, the performance and fuel efficiency of the new model will be quite improved. It seems like the manufacturer fully understood and exploited the phrase: less is more.
2017 Subaru Legacy Could Carry Over 2.5-liter Four-cylinder
Another piece of information about the future powertrain of the 2017 Subaru Legacy is that the next model could keep its current engine. It is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower. However, if this happens to be true, this unit will not be alone. There will also probably be turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer will that delivers 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is also used for other Subaru models, such as the Subaru Forester. This unit has proven over the time to be an excellent choice, thanks to its good performance and satisfying fuel economy results, that it will probably be the most interesting option the Legacy will have offered.
CVT Transmission & Sport Edition’s Manual
All of the aforementioned engines will come with the CVT transmission, while the manual transmission will be offered as optional. There are some rumors, though, about the special trim for the future car. According to them, the 2017 Subaru Legacy Sport will come with manual transmission only. This unit will use the aforementioned 2.0-liter boxer mill, with no other options available.
2017 Subaru Legacy Hybrid
The 2017 Subaru Legacy might get a hybrid powertrain. The new green car will probably use the same setup that is installed in the Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid. It consists of a 2.0-liter engine and a 10-kWh electric motor. The battery pack of this setup is being recharged by regenerative braking.
2017 Subaru Legacy Release And Expected Price
The 2017 Subaru Legacy will fix all the kinks and flaws the current model might have. It comes as a model that offers a modern and appealing appearance, well equipped and comfortable interior and versatile powertrain. The engine options are the strongest suit to this car, as it offers all from smaller engines with superb fuel efficiency, over a more powerful and exciting mill all the way to the hybrid setup. Since its release will probably happen by the end of 2016, or during 2017 at worst, there is still time for some changes and adjustments, and for us to report on them. As for the price, there are no official announcements yet, naturally, but it shouldn’t be changed. However, if it does change, the increase should not be drastic, meaning that the 2017 Legacy will cost slightly above the current $21,700 price tag.
