2017 GMC Granite Rumors — Crossover vs. Truck

By | 06/07/2015

The 2017 GMC Granite is being widely speculated these days. Although there is still no official confirmation on whether or not the new model will be released, the public seems to be more than enthusiastic when it comes to this crossover. Some sources claim that the manufacturer has already started working on the new model, since it’s been rumored that the GMC has registered the name GMC Granite at the respectable institution. However, the details about the new compact crossover are still scarce. This is mostly due to the fact that there are currently two GMC Granite concepts known to the automotive audience, and the manufacturer still hasn’t made its choice public. The GMC Granite Concept, the first one of the aforementioned two, was presented in 2010, while the second one, the GMC Granite CPU Concept debuted later that year. The first one depicts a robust and attractive compact crossover, while the CPU counterpart presents a compact pickup truck. Since there is no official information on which one of these two will make into production, the public is divided. Some believe that the crossover is almost absolutely going to win the tie, while other believe the new pickup truck is exactly what GMC needs in its model lineup. Whoever happens to be right, the new 2017 GMC Granite will probably be released in two years.

2017 GMC Granite vs. 2017 GMC Granite CPU

The 2017 GMC Granite has equal chances of being a crossover and a truck, since there are two concept already designed with this name. The first one, the GMC Granite Concept represents a small, compact crossover. The model debuted in 2010 and depicts and interesting model with attractive and somewhat futuristic design. The crossover also shows a rather cozy and elegant interior design with plenty of room. On the other hand, the GMC Granite CPU Concept is a compact pickup truck. It shows a dominant and bold model, which could fill the gaps in the GMC’s model lineup. The truck was also really attractive and modern.

2017 GMC Granite – Which Concept Will Prevail?

The 2017 GMC Granite might come in either form – as the crossover or as the truck. At the moment, the decision could go either way. Some sources believe that the crossover is definitely going to be released. It would expand the list of the crossovers offered by the GMC and therefore increase their sales since this is currently one of the most popular market segments. However, the GMC already has a lot of similar models, so they might decide to offer something a bit different. If the 2017 GMC Granite comes as a truck, it would open a new market niche for the manufacturer and allow them to expand the market segments in which they can profit. Both ideas sound reasonable at the moment, so we best not make a decision just yet.

In addition, despite the fact that there are two concepts ready to be turned into production models at the moment, the 2017 GMC Granite might end up not looking like any of them. Let us remind you, both of the concepts debuted in 2010. Back then, they were really modern and attractive, but it’s been five years since their premieres. By now, their modern and aggressive appearance became, well, less modern and aggressive. However, the concepts might be used as a starting point in creating new production model. They can also be improved and tweaked to look more like the rest of the GMC’s current lineup, but they will certainly keep some of the current uniqueness and stance.

2017 GMC Granite – When Will It Be Released?

The 2017 GMC Granite might not be released as soon as we think. Even though they renewed the registration to this nameplate, the year 2017 is only speculated. However, most sources believe that the new model will debut as soon as next year, meaning the 2017 model year is more than possible. However, we should wait a bit more to see what the manufacturer decides.
