The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will have its debut this week at the 2016 New York Auto Show. This exhibition will be packed-full with new premieres, but we fear not for the new hatchback, as it comes with some rather interesting new perks. The 2016 Chevy Sonic now comes with a redesigned exterior, bolder stance and more modern appeal. In addition, it will also feature more gadgets and new details inside the cabin, offering a more pleasant and comfortable drive. The 2016 Chevrolet Sonic will, however, keep its current counterpart’s powertrain intact. This is not a bad thing, though, considering the results of the current model, it just means there will be no major changes in this area (and it’s not like it needed it). The 2016 Chevrolet Sonic will be offered in both four-door hatchback and five-door sedan version, and will come with different trims offered with them. The hatchback model of the 2017 Sonic will offer two trims – the RS LT and the RS Premier. As you can see, both the models will be RS and will bring a more sportier vibe, which the current Sonic RS has. The sedan model will offer more options, though, as it comes in four flavours: the LT, LS, Premier and RS.
What’s New with 2017 Chevrolet Sonic?
Let’s start with the most obvious changes – the design. The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will feature an updated new look. The new hatchback now has a more modern and aggressive appeal. The front end holds new, edgy headlights, LED running daytime lights and a revised grille. The rear end also got new lights, and a more in-sync style. The new model offers some new colors, too, as well as a choice between 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheels.
The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic now has a bit more standardized and Chevy-oriented look than before. Though many car enthusiasts think this restyle has taken the hatchback’s recognizable charm away, maybe it will be best not to rush with conclusions. The new model looks attractive and modern and might be just as charming to the audience as its predecessor was.
The 2017 Chevy Sonic also comes with some interesting updates in the cabin. To start with, the new hatchback will now offer more gadgets. The new hatchback comes with a 7.0-inch MyLink touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay software, new heated steering wheel, heated cloth seat, power driver’s seat, keyless entry and push-button start.
2017 Sonic Powertrain Options
The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will carry over the current model’s powertrain. That means it will offer a 1.4-liter turbocharged and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engines. Both of the engines can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The mills both generate 138 horsepower, but the smaller turbocharged engines offers 23 lb-ft of torque more than the 125 lb-ft standard 1.8-liter engine. The performance of the new 2017 Chevrolet Sonic should be similar to the performance of its current counterpart.
Premiere & Release Date
The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show. It should be available for sales this fall.
