2017 Chevrolet Silverado Rumored to Come with New Transmission & Body

By | 04/20/2015

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado should be released next year, or even late this year. The new pickup will not be fully redesigned, but its changes should help it become more popular and attractive among its tough competition. The 2017 Silverado will, to begin with, have a bit altered exterior. The exact design is currently unknown, as are most of its changes, but it should make it look more modern and a bit more aggressive than before. In addition, the new pickup truck is rumored to come with an updated powertrain which will feature a new transmission, and more importantly, some structural changes. Word is that the new 2017 Chevrolet Silverado will come with a new body, made out of lightweight materials instead of the heavy steel. This would have a fantastic impact on the model’s performance, but it is still unclear how extensive this change will be. Just to remind you, numerous other models in the Silverado’s market niche have already made this change in order to reduce fuel consumption and improve performance, so it is only logical for Chevrolet to do the same with this beloved truck. Nevertheless, whatever the changes on the new 2017 model are, they can only improve the popularity of it, not reduce it.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado Exterior & Interior Updates

The 2017 Chevy Silverado will come with a bit improved appearance. Although the exact look is currently unknown due to the heavy camouflage on the testing mule spotted in the USA, there are some rumors and clues about its future exterior design. To begin with, the new model will look more aggressive and more up-to-date, as the manufacturer stated. The pickup truck will come with an altered front fascia, reshaped hood and fenders and new, wider grille. In addition, the taillights will be refreshed, while the headlights get a new shape and a LED tech. The entire design will be more aerodynamic and fluent, while the elements and details on it will be sharper and more aggressive.

As for the interior, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado will come with a bit updated cabin. Though information is scarce at the moment, it is rumored that the new model will feature a new upholstery and a bit changed design. As for the equipment, at this moment we do not have much information, but we do know that the new 2017 Silverado will feature the latest MyLink infotainment system.

New Body Rumored to Be Made Out of Lightweight Materials

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is said to come with a changed underpinning. While the configuration and dimensions should remain the same, the pickup will probably feature a lighter chassis than the current one. It is said that the new Silverado will be made out of lightweight materials, such as aluminum, though the manufacturer didn’t say how extensive the alloy use will be. Nevertheless, this change will have a positive impact on the model’s performance and fuel efficiency, which are parameters that can’t be ignored. Since most of the rival pickups have already undergone such change, the Silverado can only benefit from the new materials as they will reduce its weight and make it more competitive on the market.

Powertrain of 2017 Chevrolet Silverado: New Transmission Rumored

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado will come with a new powertrain setup. According to some sources, the new pickup will be powered by the same engines as it was so far, but it will have a new transmission offered. Let us remind you, the current model offers a 5.3-liter V8, 4.3-liter V6 engine and a 6.2-liter V8 mill. However, the new model will not use the old six-speed transmission. Instead, it will come with either an eight-speed or a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The first one has already been used with the V8 mill, and the 10-speed one is being co-developed by General Motors and Ford. The latter will be used for most of the trucks starting 2017, but it is unclear whether it will be ready for the Silverado’s release. That’s why some sources think that the new 2017 Chevrolet Silverado will use the 8-speed gearbox only, while the ten-speed one will come with the next generation. In addition, the 2017 Silverado is rumored to come with a diesel engine as well, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Expected Release Date & Price

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado should be released early next year or late this year. As for the price, the new pickup should cost almost the same as the current model, or slightly more, meaning its price will probably be somewhere around $30,000.
