The 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription had its premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. This is the second iteration of the S60 sedan which was presented at this auto show; the first one is the Cross Country we already wrote about. The new S60 Inscription is a more luxurious and bigger version of the famous S60 sedan which is already on sale in Europe and China under the moniker S60L. It is also the first Volvo model to be produced in China and sold in the USA. However, don’t think that that means it is of low quality or uninteresting. The 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription is an excellent mid-size sedan – it is longer than the regular S60, so it provides more space, it is comfortable, elegant and powerful. Also it is much more luxurious than the normal S60 and is meant for all those who prefer fine things in life and are aware of Volvo’s capabilities. Let’s take a closer look.
Normal S60 Vs S60 Inscription
The biggest difference between the 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription and its regular counterpart is in their lengths. The Inscription model comes as a 3.1 inches longer sedan, offering 3.4 inches more legroom. Though this change doesn’t seem as important as you might have expected, the additional space was long awaited and will make a big difference. The new, more comfortable sedan now offers almost the most rear legroom in its market niche, which significantly improves its position between other luxury sedans.
Some other details which are different between the S60 and S60 Inscription are luxury level-wise. The new 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription comes with a higher level of equipment and more luxurious and elegant details. The exterior design will remain the same; though the new model will offer 19-inch wheel reserved only for the Inscription variant. As for the interior, the new cabin is fully equipped and even comes with Linear Walnut trim, accent lighting and other elegant and luxurious details.
The 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription will come with a couple of interesting styles for the interior – the Premier and the Premium one. The Premier option offers leather upholstery, Sensus navigation package and a moonroof, while the Premium version comes with dual xenon headlights, Sensus technology package and an awesome Harman Kardon audio system.
2016 Volvo S60 Inscription Powertrain Options
The 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription will offer two engine options. The first one is the turbocharged 2.0-liter T5 inline-four unit which can generate 240 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The second engine option is a turbocharged 2.5-liter T5 inline-five mill which produces 250 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The first engine will be used for the front-wheel drive sedan, while the more powerful inline-five mill is reserved for the all-wheel drive model.
