2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition Debuts at 2015 Chicago Auto Show; New, Modern & Exclusive

By | 02/22/2015

The 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition had its debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. This limited edition sedan will come with some rather interesting perks. The model is based on the Corolla S Plus trim, but its exterior and interior design are far more refined and modern. Also, the new limited edition sedan offers numerous advanced technological gadgets as standard, as well as some additional upgrades. As for the powertrain, the 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition will use the same Corolla S Plus powertrain setup, so all of its redesign will be focused on the design and equipment. Although the manufacturer didn’t announce its reasons for a special Corolla, many sources believe it was to pay tribute to its 50th anniversary. The 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition will be released exactly fifty years after the first one, which debuted in 1966. Since then, the Corolla managed to win the best-selling title in 2013  and to remain one of the most popular models in its market niche throughout the years. If those aren’t the reasons to celebrate, which are?

Exterior Design

The new 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition looks really modern. Like we mentioned before, the base for the new design was borrowed from the Corolla S Plus. Most of the changes concern the front end – there is a wide sharp grille and a pair of narrow and dominant headlights. The front fascia really looks bold and aggressive, giving a new feel to this classic sedan. The side look remained almost the same; the new Special Edition only comes with a bit more fluent shape. The rear end, however, followed the well-known Toyota design. Its appearance is not radical or bold; it is rather smooth and simple. That doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with it; au contraire, it fits perfectly with the rest of the design part, making the whole a simple, yet dominant and modern structure. The design of the 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition is even more pronounced with standard gloss-black 17-inch alloy wheels, special finishing touches and only three colors available – the Absolutely Red, Black Sand Pearl and Super White – all of which are exclusive to this edition.

Interior Design & Technology

The 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition will come with a sporty and attractive interior. The cabin of the new sedan features black upholstery with red contrast stitching and red accented dashboard. Like with every special edition, this too comes with numerous small details exclusive to it, such as logos and emblems, small details on doors, floor mats or seats, etc. The overall interior design is really modern and sporty, fitting perfectly into the image presented with the exterior. As for the equipment, the 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition comes with numerous gadgets which are standard to Corolla S Plus trim, such as a Smart Key System with pushbutton start. Optionally, the new model offers Entune Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite, as well as powered sunroof with tilt and slide functions.

Powertrain Setup Same as One of Corrola S Plus

The 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition will be powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine which can generate 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is used for the Corolla S Plus, and it will be mated with the new same CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Therefore, the new 2016 Corolla Special Edition should come with the same performance as the aforementioned Corolla trim.

2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition Release & Price
