2016 Porsche Macan Diesel Details — Great Specs & Fuel Economy

By | 10/19/2014

The 2016 Porsche Macan will have its premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, which is scheduled for next November. The new model will come as more or less unchanged, at least when it comes to its design. This is a logical move since the Macan is relatively new model on the market; however, we were expecting some smaller updates and moderations. Instead, the manufacturer decided to concentrate on the model’s powertrain. Reportedly, there will be some smaller changes when it comes to the gasoline engine, but also, the new crossover will get a diesel option, too. Many might argue the justification of such call, as the diesel units are not very popular in the USA. The reason to such attitude lies in the fact that most buyers believe the diesel engine does not provide enough power and agility. However, this is a common misconception. The diesel units provide more than satisfactory performance to any model, and with the regulations on the fuel efficiency that are getting stricter by the day; soon they may even be the best choice. On the other side, it is still uncertain how the public will perceive the new model’s powertrain, but that is left to be seen after the SUV’s release.

2016 Porsche Macan Diesel — 3.0-liter V6 Engine, PDK Transmission & Specs

As we mentioned before, the biggest change on the new 2016 Porsche Macan will be its new diesel engine. It is the 3.0-liter V6 unit that can generate between 245 and 255 horsepower. Even though you might consider that this is not enough power, then you should know that the same unit produces an amazing 428 lb-ft of torque. This power output will provide superb performance, which will not fall behind the performance of the gasoline engine-powered model. In addition, this unit will be mated with an automatic seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. Such setup will use an all-wheel drive and thus, it will provide the crossover with a superb acceleration. The 2016 Macan with the diesel option will speed up to 60 mph from a standstill in around six seconds. Moreover, this model will have a great fuel economy. Its fuel efficiency figures will be at 24 mpg/city and 31 mpg/highway. This is an impressive result for a Porsche and it combines the best of both worlds: efficient driving and an adventure of owning and sitting behind the steering wheel of a Porsche.

Gasoline Engine Options

The 2016 Porsche Macan will, aside from the diesel option, offer a couple of gasoline units as well. There will be a 3.6-liter gasoline twin-turbo unit that delivers 400 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Another option will be a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 unit that can generate 340 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the new model will not offer a four-cylinder engine which is quite famous among the Porsche models. Regardless, the new Macan will have a good variety of engine options for everyone to choose something to their liking.

2016 Porsche Macan Premiere

There is still a lot of time left until the premiere of the 2016 Porsche Macan. Therefore, many things can be changed until then. However, what is certain is that the manufacturer will keep on improving the model’s performance, regardless of the engine choice. As for the price, since so little information is available, it is too early to make any estimations.
