The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will have its debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The manufacturer did all they could to prevent us from finding out anything about the new model, so it will surely be a huge surprise. However, they did release two teaser images, probably just to make it more difficult to wait for the premiere. The images don’t show too much, but they do give some answers to how the new model will look like. Also, the manufacturer stated they used “more than one hundred engineering and design improvements” on the new SUV, which means it will come as a much better model than the current one. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will, therefore, represent a tough competition to all other SUVs on the market, and with these new improvements, we are confident it will be a model worth waiting for. As for its powertrain, there are no official announcements regarding its engines and drivetrain setups, but as always, there are rumors. However, we still have some time left until the premiere, so let’s not rush into any conclusions.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Exterior & Interior Changes
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will come with a completely redesigned appearance. Though the teaser images don’t show much, we can still conclude a few stuff from them. Firstly, the new model seems to be based on the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S design which was presented at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Its front fascia looks really dominant and bold, with narrow headlights and restyled grille. In addition, the model should feature numerous chrome details and a very aerodynamic and fluent line. If you take into account the aforementioned statement the manufacturer made, you can easily conclude the new model will feature some design solutions which will look good, but at the same time, improve its performance. As for the interior, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is said to come with a much more comfortable cabin. Its entire design will be changed and it will come with improved noise reduction, better stability and all in all, it will provide a much more pleasant experience.
Powertrain Rumors & Speculations
Though there is no official information about the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander’s powertrain, there are some rumors regarding this topic. These rumors mostly mention two engines. The first one is the 2.4-liter MIVEC unit and the second one is a 3.0-liter MIVEC V6. These engines should provide better performance than the current powertrain setups. In addition, the 2016 Outlander will also offer a 2.2-liter Di-D turbodiesel engine, but this setup will not be available in the USA. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will also feature a PHEV version. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that can generate 121 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque and a couple of electric engines. In total, the SUV will offer 164 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will have its premiere at the 2015 NY Auto Show, which starts on April 2nd.
