2016 Mazda6 — Not-so Improved But Still Impressive Sedan

By | 12/06/2014

The 2016 Mazda6 will be released next February. With so little time until the release, almost all the specs of the new sedan are known. The 2016 model will come with some mild changes, since it will only represent a mid-cycle update. The Mazda6 suffered a full-scale redesign two years ago, so it really doesn’t need any new drastic improvements. So, what will the new sedan bring? Well, the manufacturer decided to refresh the sedan’s style, offering a new and slightly improved exterior. Also, similar changes will occur inside the model, with the new instrument panel and smaller design tweaks. The new 2016 Mazda6 will also come with some new body colors and similar surprises in order to keep its current fan base and, possibly, expand it. However, that’s not all. The manufacturer also offered some new gadgets and systems, which will surely make the sedan look more interesting. As for the powertrain, the new model will keep the current engine lineup unchanged, but don’t let this fact disappoint you. The performance of the sedan is truly impressive, so it needs no upgrades in this field.

2016 Mazda6 Update

2016 Mazda6 Exterior Improvements

The 2016 Mazda6 will come with new and improved appearance. Though the changes will not be drastic, they will be noticeable. The front end now holds a new grille, and more importantly, a new pair of reshaped LED headlights. The rear end will suffer smaller, but similar changes. The overall dimensions and body shape will, however, be kept. In addition, the 2016 Mazda6 will come with new 19-inch wheels and it will also be offered in two new body colors: Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic. These changes are really subtle, but they do make the new sedan look more modern and attractive. The 2016 Mazda6 is equally impressive and stunning as it always was, only now it seems to look more contemporary and bold.

Interior Changes & Updates

The 2016 Mazda6 will also suffer some smaller changes on the interior. The most noticeable one is the change on the instrument panel, which has been reorganized and updated. Also, there is now a seven-inch screen which is connected to the latest Mazda Connect system, which is also used for the latest Mazda3. In addition, the new sedan will also come with an Electrical Parking Brake system, which should soon find its way into other Mazda models’ cabins. The 2016 Mazda6 has an improved noise cancellation and offers numerous safety gadgets, which are put together in a package called the i-Activsense package.

2016 Mazda6 Powertrain Remain the Same

As for the powertrain, the 2016 Mazda6 will keep its current engine. It will be powered by a direct-injected 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder unit which can generate 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated with either a six-speed automatic SKYACTIV-Drive or a six-speed manual SKYACTIV-MT transmission.  As for the earlier rumors about the possible diesel engine and the diesel hybrid setup, we must disappoint you. Both of those are just rumors, and the manufacturer announced that the new 2016 Mazda6 will not be getting any of those. Also, the new model will not be bringing any changes concerning powertrain or performance.

Release Date & Price Estimation

The 2016 Mazda6 will be released in February 2015. As for the price, there should be an official announcement stated soon, but in our opinion, the new sedan shouldn’t cost drastically more than the current one. Let us remind you, the base price for the 2014 Mazda6 is $21,190.
