The 2016 Kia Sportage should debut this September at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model will bring numerous changes, and though none of them will be extreme or drastic, they will make quite a difference when it comes to the popularity of this CUV. The 2016 model will feature a somewhat changed exterior and interior design, which should make it look more aggressive and modern, but it will also come with a lot of new equipment. According to some sources, these new updates should add some premium features to the existing offer and to simplify the lineup. The 2016 Kia Sportage will be offered in three trims, the LX, EX and SX, as it was before, and each of the trims will now come with more equipment and gadgets. As for the engine lineup, the 2016 Sportage is said to carry over its current powertrains without any changes.
2016 Kia Sportage Exterior Changes
The 2016 Kia Sportage exterior design is currently unknown. However, there are some photos on the internet of the new model being tested which reveal certain aspects of its design, regardless of its camouflage. To start with, the new 2016 Kia Sportage will come with a redesigned grille and new headlight design. The front end will therefore have a new appearance, which will not diverge too much from the current one. As for the rear end, the new crossover will feature restyled taillights and possibly a new bumper. All the aesthetic changes will be subtle, but noticeable. The new model should therefore look distinctive and more aggressive.
However, the focus of the 2016 Kia Sportage redesign is not in its appearance. What really matters is that the new CUV will bring more gadgets. Of course, the equipment level is different for each trim, but all the trims got improved.
2016 Kia Sportage LX Popular Package – What’s New?
The 2016 Kia Sportage LX is the base trim and it seems that it got the most updates. The new Popular Package now offers Rear Camera Display and auto headlights. These two gadgets are added up to the existing list of equipment which also offers trip computer, rear armrest and cup holders, Smart Key with push-button start, rear spoiler, leather seating, roof rails and illuminated sun visors.
2016 Sportage Premium Package Updates
The 2016 Kia Sportage EX Premium Package now comes with Infinity Premium audio system, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, fog lights and glove box cooling. These gadgets are new and added to the panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and navigation which are part of the current offer.
2016 Kia Sportage SX Trim
The 2016 Kia Sportage SX is the most upscale model offered. It is powered by a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 78 horsepower more than the standard engine offered with LX and EX trims. It also features dual exhaust pipes, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, aluminum door plates and different wheel and grille design. Therefore, the SX trim looks a bit more exclusive than the other trims and is meant for those with a more peculiar taste and bigger expectations.
The 2016 Kia Sportage LX and EX trims are powered by a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder engine that can produce 182 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Sportage SX, however, comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder mill that produces 260 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Both of the engines are mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission and offer all-wheel drive.
The 2016 Kia Sportage will probably be unveiled this fall. As for the release date, the model should be available at the beginning of the 2016. The pricing for the new model has been announced yet.
