The 2016 Kia Sorento had its premiere at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Now that the exhibit is over, we can stop with the speculations, take a good look at the new model and form an objective opinion. After doing so, we must conclude – the new crossover is rather fascinating. Not only is it better than its predecessor, but also, it comes as a serious competition to all other CUVs on the market. To start with, the new model offers five trim levels, three different engine options and two interior setups. This alone is a fantastic trait, since everyone can find a Sorento to their liking. In addition, the manufacturer worked on the exterior design as well, so the new CUV looks more modern and attractive. As for the interior, the 2016 model comes with slightly larger dimensions, offering more space inside, as well as more comfort. All in all, the 2016 Kia Sorento is an excellent new crossover, with all its features improved in comparison to the current model. Also, we must stress the fact that the new model is not only better than its 2015 counterpart, but also, it is a really good and well-balanced model. The new mid-size SUV is a perfect choice for all those who are looking for a reliable, comfortable and attractive crossover that turns every journey into an adventure.
2016 Kia Sorento Dimension & Exterior Changes
The 2016 Kia Sorento comes with an improved exterior design. The new appearance is definitely bolder and more assertive. However, the manufacturer found a perfect blend between the aggressive look and a more elegant and refined style, so the new CUV is a perfect choice for both large families and assertive and a bit of a show-off drivers. The new model borrowed some of the design cues from the Cross GT concept. Therefore, the new model looks more modern and attractive than its predecessor. The front end now holds new LED headlights and restyled air intakes. The rear end also got LED taillights, and a slight design change. The overall shape and body now look more aggressive and aerodynamic, while the entire design is rounded up with a choice of the new 17-, 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the 2016 Kia Sorento suffered some dimension changes. The new crossover is now 0.2 inches wider and it comes with a 3.1 inch longer wheelbase. This change, although small, will provide more comfort and space inside the vehicle, but it will also improve the model’s performance, especially its stability and precision.
New Improved Interior & Equipment
The interior of the new 2016 Kia Sorento will simply amaze you. There are so many fascinating new features inside the cabin; we simply don’t know what to begin with. The new mid-size SUV comes with two interior setups: the five- and the seven-seat arrangements. Both of them are very comfortable, and due to the slight dimension increase, there is now 0.5 inch more legroom than before. Though this doesn’t seem like a big change, it does make a difference. Also, the interior design remained elegant and subtle as always, while the new cabin now comes with more quality materials in order to make it look even more refined. In addition, the new 2016 CUV offers more space for the cargo than its predecessor. The new Sorento can now hold 1.5 cu-ft more baggage than the 2015 model, making it a total of 74 cu-ft of space with the seats all flattened. However, with all the seats straightened up, the new crossover can store 11 cu-ft of cargo, which is a significant increase compared to the current 9 cu-ft. This is an important increase and it will surely help the new model win over more fans. As for the technology, the 2016 Kia Sorento comes fully-equipped. The new model will feature the latest infotainment system, as well as many other additional gadgets. Since the new model is offered in five trims – L, LX, EX, SX and SXL – the level of equipment depends on the trim level you choose. Therefore, you can choose from, for example, a 630-watt Infinity audio system with 12 speakers, 14-way power driver seat, and 8-way power passenger seats or Clari-Fi restoration tech. The safety gadgets are equally impressive.
Three-Engine Choice and Powertrain Specs
The 2016 Kia Sorento comes with three engines offered. The first one is the new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four unit which generates 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The second and the third units are well-known since they were used for the current model: it is the base engine, the naturally aspired 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit which produces 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque and the most powerful unit, the famous 3.3-liter V6. The latter generates an amazing 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is said to come with slightly worse power output than the aforementioned figures, though, but that doesn’t necessarily have to mean its performance will be worse as well. As for the transmission, the 2016 Kia Sorento comes with only one option, a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Expected Release Date & Price
The 2016 Kia Sorento will be released early next year. As for the price, the new model shouldn’t cost much more than the current one, which means its base price will be somewhere around $24,000.
