2016 Ford Taurus Debuts at 2015 Shanghai Auto Show as All-New & Exclusive Sedan

By | 04/25/2015

The 2016 Ford Taurus has been presented at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The new sedan comes as a premium model, with some extravagant features, elegant design and wicked powertrain. This Taurus is meant for the Chinese market, where it will have a somewhat different character compared to its future American counterpart, but nevertheless, the premiere will help us get a preview of what we are in for. The new 2016 Ford Taurus will come with an improved and updated exterior design, which will now be more aggressive and bold. Also, its interior has been dramatically improved, especially when it comes to space and comfort. As for the powertrain, only one setup has been announced, but the U.S. market should offer more variants which will include different types of mills. The new 2016 Taurus will therefore, represent a much better offer than its current counterpart since the redesign sorted out all the flaws which the predecessor had. In addition, this is the first time the Ford Taurus will be offered at the Chinese market, so the manufacturer made sure the model was good enough for such a tough competition. All in all, there are very slim chances for sedan to disappoint.

Appearance & Structure

The 2016 Ford Taurus will come with an impressive appearance. The sedan now looks really modern and exclusive. The Chinese version of the model is meant for the exclusive clients, ones with chauffeurs and extravagant wishes. That’s why the sedan presented in Shanghai isn’t exactly the same as the future U.S. model, which will be more common and down-to-Earth. The new sedan will feature a rather altered exterior design. It will now come with LED headlights and taillights, a sunroof, polished 19-inch alloy wheels and chrome exhaust tips. These elements will make it look more aggressive and sophisticated, so maybe some of them (if not all) will be translated to the American model. The new 2016 Ford Taurus is underpinned by the reshaped Blue Oval’s CD4 platform, which will also be used for the Lincoln Continental and Ford Fusion models. Its overall length is 197 inches, while the wheelbase is 116 inches long. The sedan is spacious, comfortable, fluent and elegant – a job well done, indeed.

2016 Ford Taurus Interior Redesign

The 2016 Ford Taurus comes with a drastically improved cabin design. The new model is now much more spacious thanks to some engineering solutions which save up every inch of the interior space. The new sedan now offers much more rear seat room, while the Chinese model enhances comfort with rear seats with adjustable lumbar support and massage option. Also, this model features rear-seat air conditioning, car media and seat function controls underneath the center seat cushion at the back. Since this is a premium model, it comes with much more high-quality materials compared to the announced U.S. model. The latter will probably be as spacious as this model, but it will not come with these premium features and its materials and design will be more affordable, so to speak.

Announced Powertrain Setups & Other Possible Options

The 2016 Ford Taurus powertrain is still unknown. At the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, the model was presented with only one engine option. It is the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 mill whose specs haven’t been announced. The engine is offered with both the front-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive mode and the same modes are expected for the American market, as well. As for the U.S.-spec model, there is still no information about its possible powertrain setups, though most sources are convinced the manufacturer will offer more variants, including some naturally-aspired engines. We should know more about it later this year.

Premiere & Release Date

After this 2015 Shanghai Auto Show premiere, the large sedan should debut at the USA later this year. The 2016 Ford Taurus is expected to be released next year as a 2016 model. The pricing is currently unknown.
