The 2016 Ford Focus RS will have its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The new model is announced as a truly fascinating hatchback, much better than the current counterpart. The new 2016 Focus RS has already been introduced, though its first public appearance has yet to happen. However, we are glad to say most of its specs are familiar. The 2016 Ford Focus RS will come with a bold and aggressive exterior and interior which will depict perfectly its fierce nature. However, this new design is far from being the most important one. What will set this hatchback apart from the other in the market niche is its impressive powertrain. Not only will the 2016 Ford Focus RS use a really powerful, 300+ hp mill, but it will also come with systems and perks which will maximize its performance in every sense. But that’s not all – the new 2016 Ford Focus RS will now be available on the American market as well. We are confident it will be as popular in the USA as it is in Europe.
2016 Ford Focus RS Exterior & Interior
The new 2016 Ford Focus RS comes with an aggressive and dominant design. The new model resembles its current counterpart, but the overall appearance is more modern and in tune with the current designing trends in the automotive industry. Therefore, the new 2016 Focus RS looks very modern and is equally attractive as other hatchbacks in its market segment. In addition, the new appearance of the model has its other side. All of the changes made on the new model are functional; they aren’t there just to be pretty. The designers improved the 2016 Ford Focus RS’s appearance so it is now more aerodynamic and better adjust to the conditions on the road and fast pacing.
As for the interior, the new 2016 Ford Focus RS will come with an 8-inch touchscreen. The touchscreen is connected to the Ford SYNC. In addition, the new hatchback offers Recaro bucket seats, as it is a performance model, but also, it comes with numerous design details, such as alloy pedals, which should enhance its adventurous spirit.
2016 Ford Focus RS Powertrain Setup
The new 2016 Ford Focus RS will use a direct-injected 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine which can generate over 315 horsepower. A similar unit is also used for the Ford Mustang, but the RS one has been tuned up and improved to better suit the nature of the performance hatchback.
The changes made on the engine are really impressive. To start with, the new four-banger comes with a new twin-scroll turbocharger which provides excellent airflow. It is combined with larger air intakes and bigger intercooler in order to let more air get to the engine and cool it faster. In addition, the new hatchback comes with new alloy cylinder heads, which can withstand higher temperatures, while the cylinder block features high-tensile cast iron liners.
The 2016 Ford Focus RS will use a six-speed manual transmission which will send power to all four wheels. The transmission will also come with shorter gear lever and it will be made of more durable materials.
Additional Performance Systems
Aside from the fantastic powertrain setup and impressive updates made on the EcoBoost mill, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will also come with some systems which will help it improve its performance. To start with, the new hatchback will use the Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring System. This system monitors the road conditions and similar parameters up to one hundred times per second and adjust the model’s performance accordingly. This will provide much better traction and handling, which are announced to be one of the best in the class. The system distributes torque to the axles according to the data received. The rear axle can receive up to 70 percent of toque and equally distribute it to each of the wheels.
This system also improves the 2016 Ford Focus RS’s cornering. It can calculate car’s lateral acceleration, yaw, steering wheel angle and speed and using instant input data, it distributes torque in a way most fit for such action. This way, the new sports hatchback practically can’t be understeered.
Aside from this system, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will also use Electronic Stability Control, sports suspension, brake-based Torque Vectoring Control, electric power steering system, antiroll bars etc.
Premiere & Release Date
Like we mentioned before, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Since it will be released worldwide, it will probably have more than one release date depending on the particular market. The hatchback is expected to be released in the USA either this fall or early next year.
