The 2016 Audi Q7 will have its premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The second generation of the luxurious SUV will come with a lot of changes and improvements. There is almost nothing that hasn’t been upgraded and improved. Starting with the design, over the architecture and all the way to the powertrain, the new Q7 will truly be impressive. The new model will come with a new, refreshed and more modern design. The appearance will be bold, dominant and aggressive. The interior should follow the same pattern. The new model will also be underpinned with a new platform, which will be very light. This platform, and a lot of other lightweight elements, will reduce the SUV’s weight and thus improve its performance. Speaking of the performance, the 2016 Audi Q7 will also come with new engines which will be much better than their predecessors. According to the reports, the new full-size SUV will offer a TFSI and TDI units, as well as a plug-in hybrid setup. The latter will be released after the conventional model, whose release is expected by the middle of 2015.
2016 Audi Q7 New Platform & Exterior Changes
The 2016 Audi Q7 will, like we mentioned before, come with a new platform. The MLB Evo platform will be made out of aluminum, like many other body parts, and it will provide excellent support. Not only will it reduce the model’s weight, but it will also improve its performance, especially steering, precision and agility. The weight loss will be more pronounced at the TDI model, which will lose 716.5 pounds, while the TFSI will come with only a slight change. Also, the new model will dictate new body dimensions. This change will not be drastic- the new 2016 Q7 will be 0.6 inches narrower and 1.5 inches shorter compared to its predecessor. However, the size decrease will not affect the comfort or coziness of the new model. As for the design itself, the 2016 Audi Q7 will come with a new and improved appearance which will not diverge too much from the current exterior. The new SUV will simply look more dynamic and modern, so its facelift will be a logical and natural sequence to the current style. The SUV will look powerful and fearless, and its bold and menacing attitude will be depicted perfectly. However, since this is a luxurious model, the designers didn’t exaggerate in anything. The bold and dominant style is also very elegant and fluent. The 2016 Audi Q7 will come with a new grille, redesigned bumpers and slightly changed headlights and taillights, while the overall shape should remain the same.
New Cozy & Modern Interior
The 2016 Audi Q7 comes with a very comfortable and spacious cabin. The SUV is available with both five-seat and seven-seat configuration. Both of them offer enough space for all the passengers, so don’t let that small size decrease worry you. Also, the design of the cabin has been improved. Now, it looks more modern and elegant. The dashboard is more refined and stylish, with new MMI interface displayed on the big touchscreen. Also, the model comes fully equipped. We will not bother you with a list of all the gadgets the 2016 Q7 will offer, but let’s mention some of them. Aside from the modern and highly improved infotainment system of the latest generation, the new SUV will also come with new voice recognition system, which can understand more than preset phrases now. Also, it will feature fantastic smartphone connectivity and loads of safety systems. The most interesting one will surely be the new adaptive cruise control which comes with a traffic-jam assist function. While on, this function can navigate the model all by itself.
New & Improved Powertrain
The 2016 Audi Q7 will offer three engines. The base one will be a 2.0-liter TFSI unit which can generate 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Also, there will be a 3.0-liter V6 TDI mill that produces 272 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, while the most powerful unit will be a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI gasoline engine that can generate 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.
