The 2016 Acura RDX had its premiere at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. The new SUV has been improved and we must say that we did not expect such a wide array of changes. The second generation of the famous model really has something special to offer. Its style has been modernized and improved, without compromising its elegance and refinement. The interior was designed in a similar way, featuring high-quality materials and various technological improvements. But that’s not all – the 2016 Acura RDX also come with superb safety features and new powertrain enhancements. The luxurious Honda brand should be very proud of their new SUV. The model is family oriented, meaning its off-road capabilities are decent, but not off the charts, but also, the new 2016 RDX is really modern, exciting and powerful. Its changes are not dull; the 2016 Acura RDX comes with improvements which will surely change the way you look at it. If you think about this model as a conventional, simple and uninteresting family SUV, think again. The new 2016 Acura RDX is modern, fully equipped, powerful luxury SUV with attractive design, comfortable and cozy cabin, loads of high-tech equipment and powerful and fuel-efficient powertrain. What more could you want from an SUV?
2016 Acura RDX Exterior Design
Like we mentioned, the 2016 Acura RDX comes with new and updated appearance. Although the exterior changes are not that drastic, they most certainly add a new spark and feel to the compact SUV. At the front end, the new 2016 RDX features Jewel Eye LED headlights with new and sharper overall shape. These changes made the front fascia look more menacing; the new chrome details around the front also contribute to such feel. The rear end was designed in a similar manner and now features new LED taillights. As for the side look, the 2016 Acura RDX kept its current dimensions, while the curves were made a bit sharper than before. All in all, the new compact crossover now looks more modern and aggressive. In addition, the new 2016 RDX also comes with improved underpinnings which should, according to the manufacturer, provide better frontal crash performance.
The 2016 Acura RDX comes with very elegant and comfortable cabin. The design is refined and modern and it fit the exterior perfectly. However, the appearance of the cabin is not the most important or the base aspect of it. To start with, the 2016 Acura RDX shares the underpinning and the layout with the Honda CR-V. This means that, despite its luxurious stance, it comes with a surprisingly versatile and functional cabin. The inside of the 2016 RDX can easily accommodate all of its passengers, offering more than enough space for even passengers over six feet tall. The comfort is even more improved with quality seats, while the driver seat is power adjustable in eight ways and comes with tilting and telescoping steering column. In addition, the seats can easily be folded to provide a remarkable cargo space, thus allowing the owner to transport, well almost anything they want. The cargo bay offers 26.1 cubic feet of space with rear seats up, while that number increases to 61.3 cubic-feet with the seats folded down. Moreover, the under-floor storage adds up more than 15 cu-ft of space, making it a total of 76.9 cu-ft of cargo space. The cabin comes with improved noise reduction, regardless of the road and whether conditions.
2016 Acura RDX Technology
The new 2016 Acura RDX comes packed-full with latest electronics. Some of the standard features are dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, a seven-speaker audio system with USB, MP3 and auxiliary support, Bluetooth connectivity, push-button start, ambient lighting, etc. The list of safety gadgets is even more impressive – the 2016 Acura RDX now offers AcuraWatch package with adaptive cruise control, stability and traction control, daytime running lights, a backup camera, front, side and side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, a multi-view camera, lane departure warning and much more.
Also, the 2016 Acura RDX offers a Technology Package that consists of dual-screen infotainment, blind sport information system, rear cross-traffic alerts, HD Radio, a GPS-linked climate control, Pandora App gadget and an Acura/ELS audio system with 10 speakers.
The Advance Package features fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, rain-sensing wipers and a keyless remote start.
The 2016 Acura RDX will come with a bit improved powertrain setup. The new model will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 unit with cylinder deactivation used for the previous model as well, only now it will be tuned up in order to provide better performance. The engine can generate 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque, which is only a slight improvement compared to the 2015 model (6 hp and 1 lb-ft of torque). However, the new model comes with a new nine-speed automatic transmission which replaced the current six-speed gearbox. The new transmission will provide much better performance, and it will make the new model more fuel efficient, as well. The 2016 Acura RDX now returns 20 mpg/city and 29 mpg/highway with front-wheel drive and 19 mpg/city and 28 mpg/highway with an all-wheel drive, which is rather impressive for a model its class.
The 2016 Acura RDX should be released this spring. The pricing is yet to be announced, though it is expected not to vary too much from the current price tag.
