By | 05/09/2014

The 2015 Toyota Prius is most likely to be released by the end of this year. If you are planning on purchasing a hybrid model, you should definitely wait until this one comes out. The new 2015 Prius will bring so many improvements we are not sure where to start. A brand new exterior is fierce, aggressive and bold, while at the same time it is keeping some similarities to the old design. The interior is supposed to be designed from the scratch, with more cargo space and way more comfortable back seats. In addition, the Prius will be the first Toyota’s model to have a new platform that will have a significant impact to its stability, fuel consumption and handling. The new model is said to have eight to ten percent better fuel economy that was amazing the way it is now. Also, there are some rumors that the Prius might have a hatchback and sedan version as well.

2015 Toyota Prius Got New Design

As for the exterior, the new 2015 Toyota Prius will have a new, modern exterior design. The first noticeable change is at the front. The more conventional headlight the predecessor had have been replaced with new ones, that are slim and long, followed by a more upright windshield and a longer hood. Also, the car will have new air intakes and it will be quite lower than the current model. In addition, the new model will have a brand new TNGA platform. Its acronym stands for Toyota New Global Architecture and it will be used for other Toyota models in the future as well, such as Camry, Corolla and so on. The new platform is a modular one, therefore, and it is said to be much lighter than the previous one, so it reduces the car’s weight and hence improve its fuel economy. In addition, the new platform places the car lower to the ground, thus lowering its gravity center as well, so the car will also have and improved stability. As for the interior, the new model will have a brand new design of the cabin, but we still don’t know just what it will look like. More reliable information is that the new Prius will offer more space for passengers and cargo, more comfortable seats and a lot of high-technology gadgets in order to stay competent on the market. Since it’s a Toyota model, expect pretty much any system, gadget and application you can think of.

2015 Toyota Prius Powertrain & EPA Fuel Economy

The 2015 Toyota Prius will use the 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine the current model also has installed, but it will be paired with a more powerful electric motor. This change, plus the weight reduction, should improve Prius’ fuel consumption by ten percent. Its former EPA figure was 50mpg/combined, so you should expect the new Prius to come with the consumption of 55mpg/combined. The 2015 Prius will continue to use the nickel-hydride batteries, even though Toyota has developed its own lithium-ion ones.  The reason to such decision is the fact that lithium-ion batteries increase the price of the car significantly, which would definitely be a downside for the 2015 Prius. Instead, it is more likely that Toyota will wait until all hybrids switch to such batteries before installing them into Prius. Moreover, the new model will come with an e-four-wheel drive, which will have an electronically controlled rear wheels,  thus making the Prius a perfect choice for rain belt and snow belt buyers.
